Minutes of the October 2005 Supervisors' Meeting

The Silver Lake Township Supervisors held their regular monthly meeting on Monday, October 3, 2005 at the Silver Lake Township Building. Terrence Dugan called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm and everyone saluted the Flag.

Tom Swan made a motion to accept the minutes as read, Terry Dugan seconded, approved. The Treasurer’s report was read, approved and held for audit on motion made by Tom Swan and seconded by Terry Dugan.

Public Comment: A resident asked if the Junk Yard Ordinance as well as the Recycling Ordinance could be rescinded. He stated that it should be up to each individual as to whether they recycle or not since each resident now pays for their own garbage. It was brought up that Susquehanna Disposal’s 3-year contract will expire at the end of the year. The current contract with Susquehanna Disposal was just to get the residents started in accepting the responsibility of subscribing to a garbage hauler. It any resident would like to go with another hauler they have that option. Calls have been made to other haulers and they are not interested in coming into the Township.

There was comment that the roads that were stone/oiled turned out very nice.

LTAP is scheduled to be here on October 6, 2005 for the traffic study. Once the traffic study is completed the Speed Limit Ordinance will be past. A petition was received from the residents of Barney Road requesting the speed limit be set at 15 MPH.

Chief Michael Hornak gave the police report. There were 19 reportable incidents for the month of September.

Tom Swan gave the road report. He updated residents on the progress of East Wilkes Barre Turnpike.

Tom Swan made a motion to advertise to sell the Hough, Terry Dugan seconded.

One assessment permit was issued during the month of September.

Tom Swan made a motion to pay the bills as submitted, Terry Dugan seconded, approved.
