Minutes of the December 2007 Supervisors' MeetingThe Silver Lake Township Supervisors held their regular monthly meeting on Monday, December 3, 2007 at the Silver Lake Township Building. The Treasurer’s report was read and held for audit on a motion made by Tom Swan and seconded by Terry Dugan. Public Comment: A resident asked if when the police department is requested to respond to another township if the neighboring township is billed. Sergeant Tim Burgh explained that it is not the township requesting the coverage but the state police. The Silver Lake Police Department covers only until the state police can get there. This amounts to about ten times a year. Sergeant Burgh went on to explain they do not actually make the arrest or do they appear in court. If anything were to happen the Silver Lake Police would be covered under the state police insurance. It was asked if anything had been done regarding crosswalks on SR 4002 at Quaker Lake. The state would have to paint the lines and Sergeant Burgh felt that very few people would pay attention to them. People that walk on that road cannot be walking right out into the roadway especially with 3 or more people across. Tom Swan made a motion to advertise for on-road diesel, unleaded gasoline, and heating oil. Terry Dugan seconded, approved. Sergeant Tim Burgh gave the police report with 36 reportable incidents for the month of November. Tom Swan gave the road report. Plowing and cindering for the winter season has been started. No assessment permits issued in November. Terry Dugan presented the 2008 budget. There will be no tax increase. The millage for the various funds remains the same. Terry read an article that stated the cost of certain items has increased by 50% in the last two years. The income side of the budget has been estimated low and the expense side high. Terry Dugan made a motion to advertise the budget, Tom Swan seconded, approved. The final budget will be adopted on December 27, 2007 at 8:30 am.
