Minutes of the November 2008 Supervisors' MeetingThe Silver Lake Township Supervisors held their regular monthly meeting on Monday, November 3, 2008 at the Silver Lake Township building. Terry Dugan called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm and everyone saluted the Flag. To start the meeting Terry Dugan explained that based on the 2000 census the Earned Income Tax would only affect a small number of the residents that work in Pennsylvania and therefore will not work for Silver Lake Township since the majority of the residents work in New York state. A lot of research has been done since the October meeting and there are still too many questions that need to be answered. At this point in time an EIT tax would be more unfair than property taxes so there will be no EIT tax in Silver Lake Township. The 2009 budget was not ready for presentation as planned. A budget work session will be held on Monday, November 10, at 9:00 AM followed by the 2009 budget presentation at approximately 10:00 AM. Tom Swan made a motion to accept the minutes as read, Terry Dugan seconded, approved. The Treasurer’s report was read and held for audit on a motion made by Tom Swan and seconded by Terry Dugan. Chief Michael Hornak gave the police report with 41 reportable incidents for the month of October. A summary of reported incidents for the last several years was given – 169 in 2004; 233 in 2005; 287 in 2006; 413 in 2007; and 309 so far in 2008. The Susquehanna County District Attorney attended the meeting and said that crime in general is on the rise. Crime that has been affecting surrounding counties is working its way in to Susquehanna County. The police department answered a number of questions for residents. Tom Swan gave the road report. Roads will be plowed with 3 trucks this year instead of 4 in an effort to save money so it will take longer for the roads to be cleared. Residents will need to be patient as the road crew will work as quickly as possible to get the snow off the roads. There were no assessment permits issued in October. Terry Dugan made a motion to pay the bills as submitted, Tom Swan seconded, approved. As no further business was presented Terry Dugan adjourned the meeting.
