  1. We have simplified the accepted materials list to describe only the items that we take. If the item in questions is not on this list, we cannot recycle it here.
  2. We are aggressively promoting the “Plastic Bottles Only” program for our plastic’s category. If it is plastic and it is a bottle, we will take it, if it is not a bottle we cannot recycle it here. The elimination of all other plastics coming here and ending up in our trash will help our financial situation greatly.
  3. We have eliminated the need to separate glass, plastics, aluminum and tin. The commingle mixture helps soften the blow for glass bottles as they are being dumped out of the container, lessening the chance of bottle breakage. This program also creates more room for your recycling in the container and makes it easier and more convenient for the volunteers and customers to recycle.
  4. It is still best to separate corrugated cardboard from mixed paper. However, mixed paper now includes all paper products (except corrugated cardboard and waxy milk and juice cartons).

We would like to thank you very much for your recycling efforts, and to offer assistance to you in any way we can, to help make your recycling easy, simple and convenient.

Please free to call with any questions or concerns.

Electronic Recycling

Computers, televisions and other types of electronic equipment can be recycled at Envirocycle located in Hallstead. There is a drop-off fee. Call for information at (800) 711-6010.

Cell Phones

According to Inform Inc., a New York based national environmental research group, Americans will retire 100 million cell phones this year, about 50,000 tons of waste. Disposing of hundreds of millions of phones in landfills or incinerators will release toxic materials such as arsenic, lead and cadmium. Cell phones can be recycled at the Susquehanna County Recycling Center. Just place it in the barrel (located in the office) marked cell phones. The phones will be sent to a company that will refurbish them.
